Identifying feelings

You are probably feeling a lot of things these days…. Anger, frustration, sadness, disappointment, restless, impatient, lonely. It is a stressful world we are living in right now. Feelings can be overwhelming when we can’t identify them. The unknown by nature is scary; one of the first steps to better understand yourself is to identify what you are feeling.

There are pleasant and unpleasant feelings. You may feel them on your body. You may feel multiple enotions at once. You can have a range of emotions in a day, in an hour, in a minute. This is normal and it’s ok to feel whatever you feel. Those feelings are valid, but reflecting on how you feel and identifying that feeling can help you feel more in control.

Take a moment to close your eyes. Breathing deeply. What do you feel in this moment? Is it pleasant or unpleasant? Where do you feel it? What does it feel like? Here are some examples…

I feel anxious. I feel it in my chest. It feels like a weight, heavy and holding me down.

I feel sadness. I feel it in my heart. It is a sharp pain that radiates outward.

I feel anger. I feel it in my stomach. It feels like boiling water, and makes my body feel hot and restless.
