Mindful silence

I really enjoy using mindfulness in my personal life and in sessions with client. I had the pleasure to attend a training to expand my mindfulness knowledge this week.

I learned that silence is actually really good for your body, brain and spirit. Silence can actually increase and renew the density of the hippocampus. This can be helpful for clients who suffer from major depression and PTSD who may have some shrinkage in that part of the brain.

We were asked to spend 3 minutes in silence during our lunch break yesterday and I found that to be very calming and centering. No music, no phone calls, no talking. Just sitting with myself my thoughts.

When was the last time you sat in silence? Did you find it helpful? Was it difficult or easy?
